Explosion Box with a Twist

Well I did it!  I finally made an explosion box.  I've been wanting to attempt one of these since I first discovered them mid last year.  I made this one with a push from Stampin' Dymonz on her blog, http://www.stampindymonz.com/.  She is doing 52 weeks of creations, and this was the project for week 3

Here's my take on it.  I can't take credit for the "twist".  After a day of blog hopping and web surfing, I found myself at http://www.thescrapyardrose.com/.  Her post on her Thanksgiving mini album is what gave me the inspiration to do the explosion box a little differently.

This view shows how the tags are not attached to the sides of the box.  This gives extra room for journaling, pictures, or whatever, on the sides.

I will edit this post tomorrow (hopefully!) with the details on making this box.

Thanks for visiting!

Valentine's Card and Treat Boxes

I wanted to share pictures of the card and treat boxes I made at my local scrapping group's First Friday meeting.  The hostess is a Stampin' UP! demonstrator, so all of the materials are from Stampin' UP!  I don't know the specific names of the punches or colors, but I'm sure they wouldn't be hard to find from someone who is a SU! demonstrator.

First off, the card.  I love the way this card came out.  It was hard!  That rosette was a bear to make.  The folding was easy; it was getting it flat and to stay on the circle that is anchoring it that was difficult!  And to top it off, the next morning I discovered that it had popped up like an upside-down cupcake wrapper!  But a little more tape, and a bottle of Modge Podge on top to weigh it down, and it is still flat to this day!

We also made two treat holders.  I think the bag on the left is so adorable!  It's holding a Ghirardelli's chocolate inside.  Mmmmm!  The card that is in the middle actually goes inside the bag.  It reads "Be My Valentine" inside.  The white box on the right has some Hershey's kisses hidden inside.  It's stamped all over with pink hearts, and has a clear heart button on the top right of the heart on the front.

I hope this post gives you some ideas for your Valentine's Day crafting.  Have a great day and thanks for visiting!

Sunday Sayings -- Happy New Year!

If you have one eye on yesterday, and one eye on tomorrow, you're going to be cockeyed today. ~Author Unknown

I read that on one of my friends' Facebook page this morning.  (Thanks TL!)  It struck a note with me.  We are now in Day 2 of the New Year.  The ending/beginning of a year is the time that a lot of people think back on the past year, and look forward to change in the new year.  Nothing wrong with that, not at all.  But we do have to remember that we have to live in today.  It's great to look at the past:  learn from our mistakes, remember good times, forgive, and let go.  It's also great to have goals and aspirations for the future.  But if we are so focused on the past or the future, we will miss the present moment that will become that past happy memory, or that first step towards that goal.

Live every moment to the fullest.  If you overlook it by waiting for the future, it has become a missed opportunity of the past.
